CONFERENCES PROGRAM RUN BY THE AVK
Trends in the composites markets
The persistently tense situation on the raw materials and energy markets continues to affect the composites industry in the DACH region. Many indicators point to a recession. All market participants in their different areas of application must have the best possible information about trends and developments. In the session “Trends in the Composites Markets” there will be an update of the composites production volumes in Europe and the DACH region. As examples, innovative applications for “urban air” aircraft will be shown for the transport sector as well as material innovations in automotive production through adequate purchasing strategies.
“Development and Trends in the European Composites Market”
Dr. Elmar Witten, Managing Director, AVK
“Flexible High-rate Production for Urban Air Mobility / Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing Using Automated Ply Placement Technology”
Dr. Jamie Snudden, Technology Programme Manager, Airborne
“Accelerating Sustainability Management through Procurement Innovation”
Startup Booster Pitches
In a few years, JEC Composites Startup Booster has become the leading startup competition in the field of Composites and Advanced Materials. It has been launched in 2017 at JEC World, and has already fostered the emergence of more than 900 innovative projects from more than 60+ countries, and selected 28 winners in 11 editions.
Come and discover the pitches of the 5 finalists of this edition ; Carbocon, Fiberior, Holy Technologies, PlastFormance and voidsy!
These 5 startups will pitch and be evaluate by the following jury : Rene ADAM, Director Research and Technology, FACC; Birgit HOFREITER, Director Innovation Incubation, Center TU Wien (i²c); Peter MARTIN, CEO, KTM Technologies; Daniel STUMPP, Head of Global Marketing SAERTEX and SAERTEX multiCom, SAERTEX and Pelin YILMAZ, Investment Director, International Chemical Investors Group.
Sustainability/Recycling of Composites
Industrial customers and end customers are increasingly expecting sustainable solutions from composites processors, and this always applies to recycling requirements. The products must be evaluated with regard to their environmental impact at all stages of production and use. The criterion of sustainability is becoming more and more decisive for purchases. It is important to develop professional sustainability concepts and produce sustainable components. The session “Sustainability/Recycling of Composites” will show innovative sustainability and recycling solutions – e.g. using the example of wind turbine blades and so-called co-processing.
1) “Closing the Loop on Composite Materials”
Guillaume Perben, CEO and Co-Founder, Composite Recycling
2) “Recycling of Wind Blades”
Alexander Vandenberghe, Sustainability Manager, WindEurope
3) “Cement Co-processing is a Sustainable Solution for Recycling End-of-life Composite Materials”
Christian Lampl, Manager LHCE, Geocycle/Holcim
4) Panel discussion with the speakers: “How to organize an efficient recycling supply chain” mixed with attendees Q & A
Digitalization as an opportunity for composites processors
In addition to sustainability, digitalization is one of the major challenges and opportunities for the industry as a whole and also for composites manufacturers. There are already some presentable solutions, but the potential for the many small and medium-sized companies in the composites industry is still huge. The session “Digitalization as an opportunity for composites processors” will highlight exemplary ways to increase efficiency. Among other things, the speakers will report on practical examples for product development and large-scale production.
1) “Opportunities and Challenges of Composites Molding Simulation for Digital Product Development”.
2) Dr. Dominik Dörr, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Simutence
“Eco-efficient and Process-safe Offline Program Creation through Integration of Digital Twins in the CAM Planning Environment”
Marc Loegel, Teamleader Composites, SWMS.
3) “Digitization as an Opportunity for Organic Sheet in Large-scale Production
Dr. Stefan Seidel, Head of R&D, Bond Laminates”
Innovative composites solutions with real added value
Innovations are the key success factor for the composites segment, which is relatively small in the plastics industry as a whole. The many small and medium-sized enterprises often succeed in gaining advantages on the market over other materials through innovations. Innovations can relate to all stages of the value chain, as will be shown in the session “Innovative composite solutions with real added value”. Concrete examples will be shown and the speakers will answer questions from the audience in a panel discussion.
Matteo Di Fulvio, CTO, Addyx
Dr. Christoph Schneeberger, Executive Lead and Co-Founder, Antefil Composite Tech
Marc Crescenti, CTO, Reinforce3D

Startup Booster is the leading startup competition in the world of Composite & Advanced Materials.
Launched in 2017, Startup Booster has been organized in three different regions (Europe, USA and Asia) and has already fostered the emergence of 900+ innovative projects from 60+ countries, 80 finalists and 28 winners, including Composite Recycling, Arevo, Continuous Composites, FibreCoat, Fortify and Vartega.
Open to entrepreneurs, SMEs, startups and academic spinoffs building innovative composite and advanced materials projects, based in Germany, Austria or Switzerland (DACH).
5 Startups have been selected to participate in JEC Forum DACH 2023 in Salzburg (Austria), to pitch in front of a jury composed of industry experts and materials investors.
The 5 startups benefited from:
- A Pitching Session in front of a jury of leading industry experts and materials investors during JEC Forum DACH 2023 (5’ elevator pitch + 3’ Q&A with the jury)
- A booth at JEC Forum DACH 2023 (with 2 registrations included)
- Access to the Business Meetings Program at JEC Forum DACH 2023
- Online Visibility through a dedicated communication plan (website, press release, emailing and social media)
- A preparation webinar for the pitch before the show
- A direct access to the jury members
Out of the 5 finalists, the jury of the competition selected 1 winner.
The winner will be directly qualified for the final of Startup Booster at JEC World 2024 (among the 20 finalists), will be featured in the Startup Village and will pitch in front of the main sponsors of the competition (Airbus, Owens Corning and Mercedes-Benz).
